London International Youth Science Forum (27th July to 10th August 2011)

LIYSF attracts over 300 of the world’s leading young scientists aged 17-21 years old from more than 50 participating countries for a two week residential event held at Imperial College London, with lectures and demonstrations from leading scientists, visits to industrial sites, research centres, scientific institutions and organisations, including world class laboratories and universities. Attending students include the top prize winners from the European Union Contest for Young Scientists, FAST, FameLab competition Egypt and the Big Bang Gold Crest Awards. We would be delighted to welcome your students to represent their country

Key note speaker confirmed – Professor John Shepherd will open the debate with the key note address. Professor Sir Roy Anderson, chair of Infectious Disease, Imperial College London and Dr. Richard Pike, former Chief of Executive of the Royal Society of Chemistry are confirmed to address students in plenary lectures. Dr Steve Myers, CERN’s Director of Accelerators and Technology will give the closing plenary lecture. Steve is responsible for the operation and exploitation of the whole CERN accelerator complex, with particular emphasis on the LHC and for the development of the new projects eg. CLIC.

At a time when the sciences are of the utmost importance to all the nations around the world, the UK Prime Minister is endorsing the Forum to stimulate the attendance of young scientists the world over to come together to learn, exchange views, opinions and share knowledge at this exciting and dynamic event.

The majority of participants are supported to attend the forum as prize winners of national and international science competitions. Many also receive scholarships from educational bodies, schools and colleges, grants from industry and scientific institutions and funding from charitable foundations.

The participation fee covers all accommodation throughout the 14 day programme, meals, full programme costs, scientific visits and free travel to programmed events in central London.
